TRUMPF Trumatic 200 CNC turret punch in operation

01 · The Machine

The TRUMPF Trumatic 200 is a CNC turret punch press — a 20-ton servo-electric punch with a 15-station tool turret that produces holes, slots, louvres, countersinks, embosses, and lance-and-form features in sheet metal at production speeds. Where a laser cuts a profile by burning, the punch shears it in milliseconds.

02 · Why It's Here

We run the TRUMPF Trumatic 200 for production-volume work where the part has integral formed features the laser can't make. Louvres, hat sections, formed brackets, and countersunk holes happen in the same program that cuts the perimeter — no secondary operation, no separate setup. On high-volume runs the punch's 265 SPM beats laser cycle time by a wide margin.

03 · How It Runs

Most of what runs on this machine is HVAC work (perforated panels, louvred chassis, plenum sides), electrical enclosures (lance-and-form mounting features), and architectural panels (decorative perforation patterns). When the laser handles the perimeter and the punch handles the formed features, the part comes off the bed ready to bend.

Common Questions

About the TRUMPF Trumatic 200.

The questions procurement and engineering teams ask before they spec a job to this machine.

Talk to a Fabricator

Choose the punch when the part has integral formed features (louvres, embosses, lance-and-form mounts, countersinks) or when the production volume justifies the throughput advantage — punching is dramatically faster on perforated patterns. Choose the laser when the part is a one-off, has tight contours, or needs the cleanest possible cut edge. Most jobs use both; the punch handles the formed features and the laser cuts the perimeter on the same blank.

Round / square / rectangular holes, slots, louvres, countersinks, dimples, lance-and-form mounting tabs, hat-section forms, and embosses for stiffening. Tooling library covers the standard TRUMPF turret stations; custom tooling available on dedicated production runs.

Up to 265 strokes per minute on simple punching patterns. Real-world throughput depends on tool changes, sheet handling, and feature complexity — a typical perforated panel runs in 30-60 seconds per part on production runs. For 5,000+ unit volumes the punch consistently beats laser cycle time by 3-5×.

Punched-hole positional tolerance is ±0.005" on first article, ±0.010" typical across production runs. The laser holds slightly tighter (±0.005" repeatable), but for hole patterns where positional consistency across thousands of identical features matters more than absolute precision, the punch wins.

Yes — that's the typical workflow. The punch handles the formed features and high-density hole patterns; the laser handles the precision perimeter cut. The same blank moves between machines on the same routing slip.

80″ × 50″ effective working area on the bed. Larger sheets can be processed in two setups with positional indexing. For sheets within the bed envelope, the punch handles the entire pattern in a single program.

From our Brampton shop we deliver perforated panels, louvred chassis, and electrical enclosure parts across the Greater Toronto Area — Mississauga, Toronto, Vaughan, Oakville, and Milton. Production turret work typically ships in 5-7 working days; free GTA pickup at our facility.
