Amada HDS-1303 NT CNC press brake operation

01 · The Machine

The Amada HDS 1303 NT is our primary CNC press brake — a 130-ton servo-hydraulic brake with a 13-foot bed and a 7-axis CNC backgauge that handles complex multi-bend sequences in a single setup. From a simple 90° angle to a 7-bend enclosure, the bend depth holds steady through the full force range.

02 · Why It's Here

We chose the HDS NT for how it handles sequence work. A typical enclosure has 5-7 bends with tight tolerance interactions — get one wrong and the whole part is scrap. The CNC backgauge positions to ±0.002" and the servo-hydraulic ram holds bend depth to the same precision through the full force range. Thin sheet, thick plate, and everything between bend the same way every time.

03 · How It Runs

Most production work on this machine is enclosures, brackets, and ductwork formed from laser-cut blanks. When the L3050 sheets come off the bed, they go straight to the HDS. One operator, one setup, all the bends in sequence — your finished sheet metal part on the table in minutes.

The questions procurement and engineering teams ask before they spec a job to this machine.

13 feet (3,962 mm) on the Amada HDS 1303 NT. For longer bends we route the part through a different brake at a partner shop; for parts that fit within 13 ft, this is the brake.

±0.5° standard, ±0.25° on first-article-verified production runs. Backgauge positional repeatability is ±0.002". For parts that require tighter angle tolerance (under ±0.25°) we'll usually route through a secondary mill operation rather than push the brake past its envelope.

Yes — the 7-axis CNC backgauge positions in three directions (X / R / Z) per bend, so a 7-bend enclosure happens in one setup with no operator repositioning. Single-pass bend programs typical for production runs over 50 units.

Mild steel up to 0.500", stainless 304/316 up to 0.375", aluminum 6061/5052 up to 0.375". For thicker bends or specialty alloys (Inconel, titanium) we'll quote with material analysis to confirm bend radius is achievable.

Tool change and program load runs 15-30 minutes per setup on the HDS NT. For repeat production parts we keep the tooling indexed, so re-orders bend faster than first articles. Lights-out runs on simple repeat work happen overnight on production schedules.

Yes — we use polyurethane bend pads and protective films when bending pre-painted, brushed, or polished stock. We'll discuss your finish requirements during the quote so we set up the tooling to protect the visible surface.

From our Brampton shop we deliver bent and formed sheet metal across the Greater Toronto Area — Mississauga, Toronto, Vaughan, Oakville, and Milton — and ship across Ontario for production runs. Free GTA pickup at our facility. Lead time is typically 5-10 working days depending on bend complexity.
